ENG 1D

We have been looking at a variety of contextual information pieces that are meant to help a reader understand the novel To Kill a Mockingbird and its significance as a literary text. What have you learned and how has your learning helped you understand the novel more?  Discuss your response to this question including some of the following items:

 

1.       Refer to a minimum of 3 of the pieces of information we have looked at including: Harper Lee’s biography, life during the Depression, Racism within the Southern United States (Jim Crow Laws), the Scotsboro Boys Trial, and any of the Classis Trials where there was a miscarriage of justice due to race, gender, religion, or age.

2.       Include your comments regarding your initial views of the novel and how your learning about these aspects above help you understand what it was that Harper Lee was trying to say through her telling of Scout’s experiences with Boo Radley and Tom Robinson.
