1. Read the poem “I know why the caged bird sings”. Make any notes on the page about symbols present in the poem.
2. Listen to the song on Youtube: “Blackbird” by Paul McCartney.
3. Research the symbols present in each piece and discuss how each is allegorical.
4. You may also consider how the two pieces fit into the study of To Kill a Mockingbird.
