ENG 1D

Today in class we watched the first 20 mins of the Scottsboro Boys Documentary and looked at the questions as well as the stylistic devices used in the documentary. Then we looked at quotes from the novel in groups and will share what was discussed first thing Monday morning.

You also got the topics for the next literary paragraph. See below. You were asked to do the outline for homework so I could check on your progress on Monday. We will set a due date on Monday for the good copy.  You are also to read to the end of Chapter 12. You should be reading 2-3 chapters a night from now on the get the novel done by the end of next week.

Paragraph Topics:

To Kill a Mockingbird Literary Paragraph

Task: Write a formal literary paragraph on one of the following topics. Adhere to all MLA formatting expectations including in text citations and Work Cited entry. Use the checklist and marking scheme provided to guide you. Also, remember to review you the goals you set for yourself after your last paragraph.

Topics:

* According to Miss Maudie, “Atticus Finch is the same in his house as he is on the public streets”(61), showing that Atticus is the moral compass for both his children and the town of Maycomb.

* While the myth of Boo Radley has become a Maycomb urban legend, his interactions with Jem and Scout suggest otherwise foreshadowing his appearance at the end of the novel.

* While Atticus states that he feels a moral obligation to defend Tom Robinson, there are many reasons why it is clear that Atticus will not be successful in overcoming the obstacle he faces.
